It is not often that your hobby can do so much good. Last weekend, Dr Peter McCormick and his son, Richard exhibited their steam traction engine at the Kettering Vintage Rally & Steam Fayre.
We were a late entry and had to ask very nicely to be allowed entrance and then pushed our luck further by asking if we could put out some literature and donation tins for BTMAT. To our surprise, not only were we given permission to attend the rally, but better yet the BTMAT charity was named in the programme, with proceeds from the “Steam Driving Experience” going towards it.
We are indebted to Michael Spitteler, the organiser of the rally, for granting us this opportunity, to the generous folk who attended the rally, and to our steam engine which behaved herself perfectly throughout the occasion. All of this enabled us to raise over £300 for BTMAT.
We hope to be taking the steam engine out more next year, now that after 14 years of lying dormant she is road-legal once again… and who knows, there may be other opportunities to raise money for BTMAT in the future.
